Strategic Plan

Strengths
The building block for any strategic plan is to identify the strengths of the local area.  The Miramichi region has many, including:

Natural Resources: The natural resources of wood, fisheries (including aquaculture) and peat, and the availability of undeveloped land are among the region’s greatest assets. The diversity of businesses in a few priority sectors are also considered as strengths.

Tourism, Recreation & Heritage: The combination of the region’s physical beauty (the river), historical sites, blended founding cultures, rich heritage, festivals, folklore, variety of outdoor activities and facilities, and friendly, hospitable people are viewed as a combination of attributes on which a more robust tourism industry could be built.

Labour Force & Entrepreneurs: The region has an available, hard working, skilled, talented, productive and adaptable workforce, including a significant bilingual capability. The region has a rich history of entrepreneurial success and a number of current successful business operators.

Business Costs, Location & Services: The region is cost-competitive from a business perspective (e.g. corporate tax rate) as well as offering an affordable cost-of-living location for residents. The region’s location at the center of Northeast New Brunswick and the availability of many business services are positive features.

Life Style & People: The friendliness and helpfulness of the Miramichi people are attractive features. As well, the availability of quality health, educational and community services enhance life style in the region.
