Process & Goals
Enterprise Miramichi was created in July 2002 to coordinate economic activities at a regional level and to develop and
implement a regional economic development plan. Another updated and revised plan has just been completed and is now ready
to be implemented.
Enterprise Miramichi has established a clearly defined process to engage a broad cross-section of the Miramichi community
in the preparation of the Strategic Plan. The process commences with the establishment of a Strategic Planning Committee whose
responsibilities are to oversee and manage the process and to report on progress to the Board of Directors. The Planning Committee has twice engaged P.K. Consulting to facilitate and coordinate the process. A Working Group, consisting
of the Enterprise Miramichi Executive Director, as chair, the Partners and the consultant, was established to carrying out
the preparatory work under the supervision of the Strategic Planning Committee.
The process commences with a workshop involving the Enterprise Miramichi Board members and their Partners, as a
first step to identifying strategic issues and regional and sector priorities. The process was expanded to include the
Advisory Forum and other community leaders. Their advice was solicited to help refine the strategic issues, establish sector priorities
and improve the strategic planning process.
In 2003 seven economic sector task groups were formed to help identify sector specific business and development opportunities. As well, Task Groups proposed ways the
region and its partners could work together to strengthen and improve these various priority sectors to produce jobs and income
to the region over the next few years. Extensive interviews were conducted with business, political and community leaders
to solicit their input to the process. In 2006 these groups were again consulted to update the sector group plans.
